Rights, respect, respect : A Whole School Approach (United Kingdom)

icon-bookpage_0

The programme builds on the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) and recognizes children as bearer of values, rights and responsibilities. The purpose is to involve all members of the school community to support the development of democratic citizens. The idea is to encourage critical thinking and the participation in the learning and the life of the school. This is partly done by including a human rights perspective in a range of subjects and by adapting participatory model of teaching and learning amongst children. The strength of the project is that human rights and democratic practices become a part of the students’ everyday life, instead of being limited to a single class or event. The “whole school approach” also has the advantage of enabling positive effects for all members of the school community.
