Djibouti, 15-18 December 2009 Originating from the Kigali Call for Action, the UNESCO Basic Education Programme in Africa (BEAP) was established to develop partner countries’ capacity to expand and reform basic education, for an uninterrupted duration of a minimum of 9 years. The IBE is playing an active role in supporting BEAP, as the Programme focuses on enhanced equity and the quality of basic education.
After the Gambia, Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire, Tanzania and the Seychelles, Djibouti is the next country which requested to participate in this Programme.
The Conference objectives are to:

  1. Inform and solicit the commitment of all education stakeholders in the BEAP programmes;
  2. Explore the concepts, principles and processes of inclusive education from international experiences and the participants’ own varied contexts; and
  3. Investigate possible policy frameworks, relevant to the participants’ own varied contexts, that would guide the development and implementation of inclusive education.

This meeting will gather representatives from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Mauritius, IBE, UNESCO BREDA, UNESCO Addis Ababa, as well as other partners.
