Improving quality of teaching in Haiti through curriculum reform

Haiti, 24-28 June 2013: After the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010, the country’s Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) developed a plan to rebuild and reform its education system. The government considers restructuring the curricula and syllabuses as a mechanism to improve the quality of teaching in Haiti.

In this context, IBE is providing support through an initial planning mission from 24 to 28 June 2013. This first meeting aims to strengthen the ministry’s capacities to pilot actions to improve pre-primary, basic, and secondary education quality through curricular reform. IBE will support the ministry to plan long-term interventions and to define an implementation plan for the first stage of the reform. The project is the starting point of a long-term collaboration between IBE, UNESCO Port-au-Prince and the ministry.

The following are expected outcomes of the meeting: a project proposal for curriculum reform; a detailed project proposal for the first phase; a summary of reform options, implications, and recommendations; and a framework for cooperation between the partners.
