HIV/AIDS, Teacher Shortage and Curriculum Renewal in the Southern Africa Region

Ezulwini, Swaziland - 11 to 14 November 2003 Upon request from countries in the Southern Africa sub-region, the IBE organized this seminar in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Swaziland, the UNESCO Division for the Promotion of Quality Education, UNESCO IIEP, the regional Office BREDA in Dakar, UNESCO Office in Windhoek and the National Commission for UNESCO in Swaziland. The seminar brought together the Directors and Heads of Curriculum departments of national Ministries of Education, the Heads of National Teacher Training Institutes as well as HIV/AIDS focal points in Ministries of Education from the following 9 countries, namely: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Republic of South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe. The seminar had the aim of strengthening the capacity of curriculum developers and teacher educators in these 9 countries in Southern Africa, the most highly HIV & AIDS affected sub-region in the world.
